Spring Cemetery Care: Preparing Memorials After Winter
April 15, 2026The monument industry, like any consumer industry, varies significantly in quality, reliability, and ethics. Choosing the right company is as important as choosing the right monument. Here’s what to look for.
Look for Established Local Presence
A company with deep roots in your community is more likely to be there for future service needs — warranty work, additional engravings, restoration. Long-standing local businesses have reputations to protect and relationships with local cemeteries that matter.
Ask to See Their Work
Request to view completed monuments in actual cemeteries rather than just photographs. Seeing finished work in context gives you a far better sense of quality, scale, and craftsmanship than catalog images.
Understand the Production Process
Find out where the granite is sourced, who produces the engraving, and how quality is checked before delivery. Some companies outsource production; others do everything in-house. Neither is inherently better, but you should understand the process.
Prioritize Communication
A company that takes your calls, provides written proofs before production begins, and keeps you informed of timelines is worth more than a lower price from a company that’s hard to reach. Memorial purchase decisions are made during difficult times — responsive communication matters enormously.
